Are there different types of wizards in the fantasy genre?

If so, can you name and elaborate on each one please? I’m a bit confused because it seems like any person who just uses magic of any sort is a wizard and I don’t believe that’s the case. =/

It really depends on the author. Each author is different and puts different types of magical people ahead of others. Some even use their own names for types of magic users (Example: In Robert Jordan’s books the women who use magic are called Aes Sedai). Some authors may even make up their own definitions for the different types of stereotypical magic users (Example: A warlock in Cassandra Clare’s books is not human, but a different species).

It depends on the book or series you’re reading. Many fantasy series have websites that can help you differentiate between terms in the books.
