Feminine Tattoos: Tattoo Designs For Women by Maire Brody
What are feminine tattoos? First of all, in this day and age, some might object to the very idea, as it’s somewhat politically incorrect to suggest that there should be different and separate tattoo designs for men and women. However, let’s face reality –for the most part, women tend to prefer certain designs, men others.
Of course, there are many tattoo designs that could be considered unisex or neutral, but the point is that there are certain tattoos that can be categorized one way or the other. If you are a woman who happens to have a wolf, tiger, skull and bones or other “macho” type tattoo, or if you want to get one, all the more power to you. Same goes for men who prefer supposedly feminine type designs. The point here is simply to explore some images that are usually thought of as feminine.
Lower back tattoos are a whole category of tattoos that are mainly displayed by females. Part of it is just cultural habit, but You Can also see that this area on a woman’s body is a good place for an image to help call attention to her shape. But let’s look at some specific tattoo designs that are usually preferred by women.
Dolphins are a great feminine type tattoo that have recently become popular. Dolphins make beautiful images, as a good artist can convey the grace and playfulness of these creatures and also depict the water in which they frolic. Dolphins also have some ancient symbolic meanings connected to wisdom in many cultures.
Mythical creatures such as fairies, pixies and unicorns are also popular feminine design choices. You can really do a lot with the whole fairy/elf realm, from cute and playful to dark and gothic. For many people fairies are not just creatures from children’s tales, but truly magical beings who represent natural forces or powerful emotional qualities.
Flowers, plants and trees are also great feminine tattoo designs. These can be almost any size or shape, and flowers are a wonderful excuse to use some striking colors. You can choose flowers, plants or trees based on your personal preferences, or research a little and find out what plants may connect with your heritage or astrological sign. The Celtic Tree Alphabet, for example, has a different tree that goes with each month. Celtic tattoos in general are a good example of tattoos that can be either masculine or feminine, depending on the specific design.
Many animals (aside from the aforementioned dolphins) make great feminine tattoos as well. To give but one example, birds can be very expressive symbols. Predatory birds like hawks and eagles are usually considered masculine, but that’s up to the individual to decide. One predatory bird that actually tends to be more feminine in many cultures (though it could be either) is the owl. Owls, of course, are symbols of wisdom, but they also have many other meanings in various cultures.
There are so many birds to choose from; this can be another way to display colors of all kinds, as well as the power and magic of flight.
These are just a few examples of feminine tattoos. Nowadays, tattoo designs for women can be just about anything you choose!
